The government has initiated far-reaching reforms for the promotion of latest disciplines of learning especially Information Technology and as a result of that Punjab has emerged as IT hub in Pakistan while Rs 1.2 billion have been earmarked by the provincial government in the next financial year for the IT sector.
The provincial minister for Chief Minister's Inspection Team Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd) expressed these views while talking to a 10-member delegation of IT experts, here on Friday. Shuja Khanzada maintained that a new satellite link with a cost of Rs 500 million for the fast Internet access would soon be available to the public.
He said that Punjab government was setting up a Software Park in Lahore at a cost of Rs 2.25 billion, which would generate 10,000 new jobs and economic activities. He stated that Software Parks would also be established in other big cities on the pattern of Lahore Software Park. He said that government was also providing all possible facilities and assistance to private educational institutions for reform and development.
'Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has announced free computer training for teachers for which huge funds are being provided to the Punjab Information Technology Board', he added. He exhorted upon the members of the delegation to strive for developing sustainable IT base in Punjab to make it able to face the modern day challenges.
