The lawyers' community has announced to observe strike on Saturday (Today) to protest action of the British government awarding knighthood to a controversial writer Salman Rushdie. The lawyers will boycott the courts' proceedings, wear black strips and hoist black flags on the bar buildings.
While talking to newsmen here on Friday, Punjab Bar Council vice-chairman Tariq Javed Warriach and office bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association said that British government should withdraw the award as this action had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.
They also condemned the police torture on President SCBA Munir A Malik and mediamen at Islamabad airport on the arrival of the chief justice. They said bar members would accord rousing reception to the chief justice on arrival at Lahore on Saturday (Today).
