The areas of residents of Karachi city under the administrative jurisdiction of the City District Government Karachi were on late Sunday satisfied with the performance of the CDGK and the town administrations led by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal in keeping amongst all the main roads and side streets free from rain water helping in the smooth flow of traffic, reports UPP correspondents.
A survey by UPP correspondents showed that the entire city of Karachi under the jurisdiction of the CDGK has been kept free from accumulation of rainwater. The conservancy teams of the CDGK and the various towns in the city were busy through the night and the day in clearing all standing rainwater from the city roads. And surprisingly, the town officers as also officers of the CDGK were themselves supervising the operation.
One could see several hundred conservancy departments workers with huge brooms and buckets busy in cleaning away the standing water. The Imam of the Mosque in front of a local hotel said to UPP correspondent that it was for the first time that the road was cleaned of rainwater within few hours while in the past and road used be full of rainwater for days.
People in Liaquatabad, Jacob Lines, Boulton Market, Empress Market, PECHS, Landhi and Korangi as also Faisal Town said they were very happily surprised to find the conservancy teams cleaning away accumulated rainwater with great speed on Saturday and Sunday. The residents of all these areas paid tribute to the young leadership of the CDGK for what it had achieved in facing the after effects of the dust-storm and the heavy rains, experience in Karachi after many years.
While the cleanliness on the roads and streets in the CDGK area of Karachi city was visible, the same could not be said of the area under the Defence Housing Authority. Many roads, streets and side streets in different phases of the DHA were water-locked though the DHA conservancy staff was busy in removing the rainwater.
At several places the rainwater had badly effected the top sole of the roads and causing motorists rough rides. Residents of the affected areas in DHA urged the DHA authorities to carry out cleaning of rainwater without delay. The situation on Sharae Faisal was also better on Sunday with rainwater removed.
The Clifton underpass on Sunday shed its old title of 'Blunder pass' when smartly clad CDGK and other conservancy staff kept the underpass clean of rainwater and it served the vehicular traffic without any interruption, reports UPP correspondent. It may be mentioned here that in the last rains in Karachi the Clifton underpass was filled with the rainwater and made inaccessible for days.
