He said construction work on about 308 housing units has already been kicked off in Karachi. While a similar project would be initiated in Punjab metropolitan for the FG employees from Grade-1 to Grade-16 on ownership basis, he added.
The minister said this facility would also be extended to other two provincial capitals of the country.
He said these housing projects would be initiated in collaboration with the Provincial and District governments and the FG employees would be able to get loans from the House Building Finance Corporation.
These houses will be constructed over the next five years in the four provincial capitals, he added. He said the step has been taken to overcome the existing housing backlog in the country. Safwan said the number of FG employees throughout the country stood at 386,000 against 22,000 housing units.
He said in the current budget, the government has announced construction of 250,000 houses for low income employees in the federal and four provincial capitals.
