Sindh Environment and Alternative Energy Minister Dr Saghir Ahmed has asked the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to pay compensation against the deaths and other losses due to electric currents during duststorm and torrential rains in the city.
This he said during his visit to the rain-affected areas of Landhi, Korangi, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Site Industrial Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar and Akhtar Colony. The minister was accompanied by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and the KESC officials.
He said that 12 to 18 hour-long power failures and load-shedding had made the life of citizens miserable, adding power outages also caused traffic jams in the city due to closure of traffic signals.
He said that prolonged power failures and load-shedding was the solid proof of the KESC failure. The minister listened to the complaints of people and assured them of resolving their problems on priority basis. He also inspected emergency work being carried out by the city government in the city and expressed satisfaction over the work.
KESC Director (Operations) Adnan Bashir and other officials Syed Sahib Ali and Tariq Noor briefed the minister about steps taken by the utility to combat emergency situation. The minister also visited Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and inquired after the health of those who received injuries due to electriccurrent caused by rains.
