District Coordination Officer (DCO) Karachi Javed Hanif on Sunday directed all the organisations of city district government to remain on high alert in view of expected rains and continue rescue operation including cleaning roads and removing billboards and trees uprooted by windstorm and torrential rains in the city.
He issued these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting of all city organisations. The meeting was also attended by Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Ghulam Arif Khan, DCO Municipal Services Masood Alam, EDO Works and Services Amanullah Chachar and EDO health.
The meeting decided that all organisations will keep their relevant complaint centres open round-the-clock to combat any rain situation. It said that heads of all organisations and town municipal officials would supervise rescue work besides redressing public complaints. The DCO said that all the organisations should boost their liaison among themselves and resolve public problems on the spot.
The EDO municipal services and other officials briefed the meeting about the rescue operation including cleanliness and rain pumping out work and removal of billboards and trees uprooted in their areas.
The meeting was told that on the directives of DCO, pumping machines had been deployed at all main roads and rainwater had been pumped out. The meeting was informed that city government staff had also removed billboards and trees from different areas of the Cantonment Boards.
