Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the government is setting up journalist colonies in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and other cities for providing better residential facilities to journalists.
He stated this while addressing the inaugural ceremony for allotment of plots in Journalists Colony, Lahore, through balloting at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Monday. Secretary Information Ashfaq Gondal, Director General LDA Hassan Nawaz Tarar, senior journalists and a large number of representatives of media were present. President Lahore Press Club, Mohsin Goraya also spoke on the occasion.
The CM maintained that all such facilities would be provided in these colonies which are essential for any residential colony. He directed concerned authorities to accelerate the pace of development in Journalist Colony, Lahore and said that he would personally visit the colony to review the pace of work.
He said that the process of allotment of plots to the journalists would continue and in the first phase all allotment letters would be issued within 15 to 20 days. He also announced quota for the widows of journalists in the colony.
He further said that Bank of Punjab would provide financial assistance in this regard. He said that park, lake, green belts and link roads as well as all basic amenities would be made available in these colonies. He said that the government is providing maximum relief to the mediamen.
President Press Club, Mohsin Goraya said that Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has made this dream true for journalists. Later, the chief minister inaugurated the allotment of plots by pressing a computer key.
