The director of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Nora and Secretary General Anders B Johnson arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday morning to attend a three-day regional seminar. The Senate is hosting the seminars in collaboration with the UNDP and the IPU.
In this connection the first parliamentarians' seminar on legislative drafting was held on Tuesday evening. Senator Anwar Bhinder, a former Speaker, West Pakistan Assembly and now member of four Senate Standing Committees, conducted this seminar.
The second seminar will be conducted on Wednesday (Today) that discuss the role of parliamentarians in the protection of children and the Juvenile Justice System in South Asia.
Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain inaugurated the three-day regional seminar that the Senate is hosting. The aim of the seminar is to enable parliamentarians to develop a deeper understanding of the problem as well as to discuss about the tools available to parliamentarians in developing a protective environment for children.
Parliamentarians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, as well as national and international experts/resource persons will participate in the discussion. IPU and the Unicef have helped the Senate in arranging the regional moot.
