Power supply in Daska city was suspended for more than 17 hours on Tuesday. Reportedly, area's low capacity old and faulty electricity transformers burnt and repaired for several times during the last night between Monday and Tuesday and during the day on Tuesday.
Due to which, the power supply remained suspended for more than 17 consecutive hours in the city's residential, commercial and industrial areas. However, the Gujranwala Power Company (Gepco) officials remained busy in replacement of the damaged power supply cables and transformers.
On the other hand, electrical appliances including refrigerators, TVs, air conditioners, electrical motors and computers in the house and shops were also burnt due to the fluctuation in the power supply. Trade activities also badly effected.
Local social, trade, business circles and General Secretary Anjuman Taajran Main Bazaar Daska Muhammad Athar Lone have expressed grave concern over this critical situation. They said that the transformers of Daska are very old and low capacity, which were unable to meet the growing load of electricity. They said that the Daska based Wapda (Gepco) officials were repeatedly informed about this nasty situation and urged to take some remedial efforts for averting an untoward incident, besides, providing relief to the local consumers.
They said that the Wapda (Gepco) Daska concern officials still unable to replace the low capacity old transformers and damaged power supply lines, which were hanging down in all the bazaars and streets in these areas, even to the height of the human being. They said that the Gepco officials were perhaps waiting for any untoward incident for replacing these transforms and damaged electricity lines.
Local people have urged the Chairman Wapda Tariq Hameed and Chief Executive Gepco Gujranwala Region to take serious notice of this critical situation for providing the early relief to them, in this regard.
When contacted, XEN Gepco Daska Nisar Ahmad Khan told that the Gepco officials were fully aware of critical situation and were making all out sincere efforts for the early remedy of the consumers. He said that the damaged power supply cables and transformers would soon be replaced.
The areas of Daska city where power supply was suspended for 17 hours include; Muhallah Wahab Masjid, Altaf Garha, Jamkey Road, Muhammad Pura, Islampura, Thathiyaraan Bazaar, Main Bazaar, Sambrial Road, Subedar Bazaar and other adjoining areas.
