Rashid asks Lahore, Karachi golf clubs to settle lease affairs: Quetta-Sibi track restored
Railways Minister Rashid Ahmad has warned the Royal Palm Golf & Country Club, Lahore, and Shape Karachi, to settle their affairs with Pakistan Railways, otherwise their cases would be sent to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said that the management of Royal Club and Shape had lost documents of leasing contracts awarded to them. If they failed to produce the relevant papers, their cases would be referred to National Accountably Bureau (NAB) for legal action.
He said that the rail track between Quetta and Sibi, which was badly damaged due to heavy rains and storm, had been restored. "Now 360 trains are running smoothly throughout the country."
He said that undoubtedly most of the trains were getting late because of heavy rains and unfavourable weather conditions but no train was stopped or suspended, for which credit should go to Pakistan Railways, he observed.
He said that to provide more facilities to the passengers, Pakistan Railways administration has decided to increase the seating capacity to 300 to 400 at four major railway stations ie Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. The decision was taken due to increase in the number of passengers. There was increase of three million railway passengers during the last fiscal year, he added.
He said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would inaugurate the e-ticketing system at Rawalpindi on July 20 and it would be second revolutionary step in the history of Pakistan Railways, after introduction of credit card booking system. A handsome cash prize would be awarded to those passengers who would be getting tickets through e-Ticketing system but final announcement would be made after consultation with the donor companies because amount of cash price would be fixed by them, he added.
Responding to a question regarding Samjhota Express accident in India, he said that Pakistan Railways was not consulted while investigating the incident by Indian authorities. No compensation was paid to the heirs of deceased by Indian railways authorities, he said.
