Trainer Aidan O'Brien saddled the first three home in the Irish Derby at The Curragh on Sunday. Soldier Of Fortune (5-1), the mount of Seamus Heffernan, raced home nine lengths clear of stable companion Alexander Of Hales (33-1), partnered by Mick Kinane.
Kieren Fallon's mount Eagle Mountain, the 6-4 favourite on the strength of his second-place finish in last month's Epsom Derby, was a short head away in third. O'Brien trained four of the 11 runners in the race with only 50-1 shot Spanish Harlem out of the money back in 10th.
O'Brien sent out eight of the runners in the Epsom Derby, including Soldier of Fortune who finished fifth. At the recent Royal Ascot meeting, the Irish maestro trained the first three home in the Group One St James's Palace Stakes.
