The Supreme Court has issued notice to CDA Chairman to appear before it court on 23.7.2007 on a complaint that agricultural farms allotted to different people in suburbs of Islamabad are not being used for the purpose for which they were allotted.
The complainant stated that CDA had allotted lands to different people for developing agricultural farms and livestock farms to fulfil meat and vegetable requirement of the twin cities. The complainant alleged that these farmlands are not being used for agricultural and livestock purposes.
The complainant said that if these lands were used for agricultural and livestock, the prices of the commodities would decrease. The complainant has requested the Supreme Court to look into the matter. While issuing the notice, Justice Javed Iqbal clubbed the application with the price hike case, which was converted into petition and fixed for regular hearing on 23.7.2007.
The price hike suo motu notice was taken on 25.6.2007 on a news item appearing in a national daily, which stated that the prices of daily use items had increased and there was no check or control over them. The application was converted into petition and fixed for regular hearing in the Court on 23.7.2007. Senator Enver Baig was impleaded as party.
