The Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) was brought back into operation on Wednesday morning when it started providing 70 MW electricity to Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC). The plant outage occurred on June 28, when the KESC's 220 kv Baldia/KDA circuit was tripped at around 1450 hours.
Earlier, efforts to start the plant failed on June 30 and July 2 due to the disturbances of KESC grid. A spokesman of KANUPP, in a press release issued here on Wednesday, said that the disturbances of KESC grid had always been a problem, resulting in unplanned plant outage.
These disturbances not only badly affected the availability of plant, in some cases it resulted in adverse affects on nuclear island equipment leading to extended shutdowns, he said. KANUPP authorities were in contact with the KESC to overcome grid problems, he added.-PR
