The District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Mian Rafiuzzaman, has acquitted Pakistan People's Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari in the concealment of assets case.
The government had filed a case against them under the People's Representation Act, alleging that they had concealed their assets while filing nomination papers for the 1993 and 1997 general elections. The court had issued 'red notices' to the couple in this case.
Benazir and Asif have already been acquitted by courts in three other references, including Steel Mills and PIA cases. PPP finance secretary Babar Awan told Business Recorder that there were still three cases against Benazir and her spouse pending in courts but he was sure that these cases would also face the same fate.
