The religio-political alliance Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) on Wednesday demanded of the government to conduct a judicial inquiry into the bloodshed in and outside the Lal Masjid.
Addressing a press conference here MMA Deputy Parliamentary leader, Liaquat Baloch held the government responsible for the worst law and order situation not only in Islamabad but also across the country. "Through a judicial commission, thorough investigations should be conducted as how the Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa situation deteriorated and who is responsible for this mess", he said.
He also sought Ulema's intervention into the matter and urged the government and Lal Masjid administration to give their respective mandates to the Ulema committee for settling the issue amicably. The MMA leader said due to the faulty policies of the present government, such tragic incidents were taking place frequently in the country and asked the government to resign.
He said use of force would create more problems and history had proved that not a single issue could be resolved by using force. He said the government never took keen interest in settling the issue through dialogue, which led to the worst bloodshed in the heart of Islamabad, killing dozens of people and injuring hundreds.
"Writ of the government can not be maintained at gun point. The crackdown is nothing more than achieving President Pervez Musharraf's personal objectives". He also condemned suspension of electricity, gas and water supply to the inmates of the Red Mosque.
The MMA leader also blamed the government of paving way for introduction of secular system of education by targeting the religious schools in the country. He said MMA leaders, including Fazalur Rehman would attend the all parties conference scheduled to be held on July 7-8 in London.
