Dr Rozeena Tufail, MNA and Parliamentary Secretary of Statistics Division said the Higher Education Commission had launched University-Industry Interaction Programme to establish strong interaction between academician and industries.
Addressing members of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), she emphasised the need for collective efforts for university-industry interaction and urged industrialists to submit their suggestion for yielding better results.
Dr Rozeena said the government was improving industry-university research linkages in the design to improve basic understanding between academe and industry.
She said the HEC programme was focused on industrial sector, which was a major contributor to world trade. The programme proposes researchers preferably with PhD degree and affiliation with international professional bodies to collaborate with local industry involved in discrete and continuous manufacturing for tangible results in terms of improvement of products and processes leading to decrease import of raw material and increase export of finished products and processes.
The products and processes needing improvement should ideally be in priority areas relevant to national needs for socio-economic development of the country.
She said aims of the programme include educating youth about the sophisticated science outcomes and creating awareness among students, general public, legislators and industrialists about the new inventions in technologies.
To create awareness about integration of scientific technologies in the socio-economic development of the country are other objectives, she added. FCCI Vice President, Sheikh Abdul Qayyum highlighted the problems of industry and expressed satisfaction over the working of Higher Education Commission. Mian Javed Iqbal, former president FCCI, Haji Talib Hussain of Talib Brothers, Shahid Ahmad Sheikh and Seth Ifthikhar Ahmad also took part in the discussion.
