Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has reiterated that the militants inside Jamia Hafsa must release hostages, lay down their weapons and submit before the law. Those who surrender would be treated according to law and the principles of justice.
The Prime Minister was addressing a high level meeting to review the law and order situation with specific focus on Jamia Hafsa situation, here on Sunday at the Prime Minister House.
Shaukat Aziz further said that the government is greatly concerned about the difficulties of the people living in the vicinity of Jamia Hafsa and would do everything possible to ease their sufferings. The government, he added, desires to restore peace and security in the city as early as possible.
The ministers, who attended the meeting, gave their views on the latest developments and possible repercussions if the situation prevails for a longer period.
The meeting agreed that immediate measures should be taken to return situation to normalcy and all discussions with the Jamia Hafsa administration stand concluded.
The meeting was attended by President Pakistan Muslim League Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Minister for Interior Aftab Khan Sherpao, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani, Minister for Housing and Works Syed Safwanullah, Minister for Health Muhammad Naseer Khan, Minister for Labour and Manpower Overseas Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Minister for Religious Affairs Ejaz-ul-Haq, Minister for Political Affairs Amir Maqum, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azim, Minister of State for Interior Zafar ullah Waraich, Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, Secretary Information and Broadcasting Syed Anwar Mahmood and senior officials.
