Her Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the mosque next to the graveyard and was attended by hundreds of friends and admirers of the Amin and Aziz family. Atiya Aminuddin, aged more than 74, who was living in her house No 3B/2 on the 21st Street of Phase V of the DHA was murdered by a gang of brutal dacoits who managed to circumvent ADT security and inside locking system and got into the house between the night of Friday and Saturday and committed the brutal crime by choking to death Atiya Aminuddin and brutally murdering her servant Jamil Ahmed Khan, aged some 25 years.
Late Atiya Aminuddin is the eldest daughter of veteran Pakistan movement worker Begum Khurshid Abdul Hafiz. Atiya Aminuddin, widowed more than twenty years age, was living alone with the servant in her residence on the 21st Street, Phase V of DHA since the death of her husband. Her elder son, late Farrukh Amin, who worked as Associate Professor with the Karachi University had died of blood cancer fifteen years ago. The younger son, Anjum Amin, is working with the ILO in Rome and is returning home for the Soyem on Tuesday.
Atiya Aminuddin used to ring up her younger sisters, Ms Sajjad Zar, retired Director General of the Federal Labour Ministry and Malka Ali, wife of Syed Iftikhar Ali, who was away in Islamabad with her husband. When no call came from her on Saturday last till meantime, Ms Zulekha Zar got worried and telephoned all relatives and friends informing them that Ms Atiya Aminuddin was not responding to telephone calls nor the servant.
On this the ADT security system to which she subscribed was alerted and the doors of the house were broken open to find that she was murdered and her servant was also brutally murdered, scorched with boiling water too. Police came to the scene of the crime, investigated into the matter and is working on different theories.
The SHO Clifton PS Imdad Ali called at the scene of the crime and assured all the relatives that police will do its best to catch the murderers. DSP Abbas Shah also visited the relatives at the house where the murders took place and assured that the murderers will be apprehended.
Qutubuddin Aziz, eldest brother of late Atiya Aminuddin is away in USA for medical treatment. Brothers Mahumudul Aziz and Khalidul Aziz and the younger sister Zulekha Zar and Malka Iftikhar have appealed to the Governor of Sindh, the Advisor on Home and the Police Chief to spare no efforts in bringing to book the brutal murderers who tortured and then killed both the victims of the brutal crime.
The gang of dacoits cleaned the house of all valuables and cash including custom-made ancestral jewellery belonging to late Atiya Aminuddin and valued at several million rupees.
Residents of other houses in the area were aghast over the crime and called for intensive patrolling and arrest of the murderous gang. The soyem for the late Atiya Aminuddin will be held on Tuesday at Masjid-e-Mubarak, Gizri Market, between Asr and Maghrib, on July 10 while for women it will be at House No 3B/2, 21st Street, Phase V, DHA, Karachi.
