Speaker AJK Legislative Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir Sunday said that de-militarisation from Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) can put to an end the massive human rights violations being committed by Indian troops there.
Talking to APP here Shah Ghulam Qadir said that the proposals of President General Pervez Musharraf about de-militarisation and self-governance provided a strong step forward to reach to the permanent and durable settlement of the Kashmir issue. He said that only de-militarisation can end human rights abuses. It is a fact that government of India has not yet given up its traditional irrelevant and unjustified stand on Kashmir.
The speaker said that the leadership in Pakistan and Kashmir has displayed tremendous magnanimity. "I salute the Kashmiri people for offering great sacrifices and carrying forward the movement", he said. He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir believe in the peaceful settlement of longstanding issue which must be in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri masses. Resolution should also be according to international commitments, he added.
The AJK LA Speaker expressed grave concern over the atrocities and human rights violations being committed by the Indian occupation forces in the held state. He further said that the human rights violations would continue to take place due to heavy Indian occupying security forces presence. He urged that Indian government should demonstrate flexibility and solid steps must be taken which are need of the hour for the resolution of lingering issue.
