The government of NWFP on Monday strongly condemned the killing of Chinese nationals in Peshawar on Sunday night and expressed the resolve to arrest the criminals and bring them to task at the earliest. The resolve was made in a meeting of the provincial cabinet held here with Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani in the chair.
Briefing newsmen about decisions taken in meeting Provincial Minister for Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai said the NWFP cabinet has expressed sympathies with the Chinese government and members of the bereaved families.
Inspector General Police (IGP) NWFP, Muhammad Sharif Virk, Provincial Secretary Home, Gul Badshah Wazir and Secretary Information Afzal Khan were present at the press conference. The provincial cabinet further decided to convey a message to Chinese government that NWFP government will do its utmost to unveil the conspiracy behind the killing of Chinese nationals.
He said the provincial government has observed that the incident was aimed at harm the friendly and cordial relations of Pakistan and People's Republic of China. The killing, he said was also aimed at deteriorating law and order situation in the NWFP in particular and in the country in general. "The Chinese nationals were working since long in provincial metropolis and have developed friendly relations with locals of the area," the minister added.
He said a high profile investigation was in progress and police high ups have constituted a team to probe the case. Meanwhile, the cabinet also offered fateha for those who lost their lives due to torrential rain and landslide in Kohistan district.
Expressing heartfelt grief and sorrow over the incident the cabinet announced a compensation of Rs 01 million for the heirs of each deceased, Rs 50,000 for serious injured and Rs 25,000 for minor injured. The cabinet also demanded of the Prime Minister to announced special package for payment of compensation and rehabilitation flood and rain hit people in NWFP. He said the provincial government has limited resources and cannot pay compensation over loss of property.
