No let-up in ordeal of G-6 area residents

There seems no end to the ordeal of G-6 curfew area residents who are facing problems like food items shortage, food inflation, non-availability of Sui gas, power load-shedding, double price of the edibles and cash shortage. The people are forced back to the stone-age when wood was the only source of fuel.
The people are under immense burden as during curfew relaxation sub-standard edibles, including rotten vegetable and fruits were sold to them at inflated rates.
The government officials had no cash to buy food items due to closure of banks for the last seven days since Lal Masjid operation. Though some banks were opened during the curfew hours yet due to load-shedding, the bank staff was not able to pay cash as the staff was unable to operate computers and other electronic equipment. Moreover, due to power shutdowns, ATM machines were not operational. Most of the people were not allowed to go to the main Melody Market due to security reasons.
Bank officials told media persons that all the staff was not provided curfew passes so it was not possible for them to reach bank and only the staff living near the bank reached the office during curfew relaxation. The government failed to provide relief to all government officials but some food items were supplied to low-paid government employees residing in G-6 sector.
The residents of the G-6 area complained that the government should provide food to all residents following the principle of equality. Trader Welfare Organisation President Salah Ud-Din told Business Recorder that when the traders came to the shops during curfew relaxation hours, locks of their shops were broken and the food items and cold drinks were not in the refrigerators placed outside the shops.
He told the media that on one hand the government failed to provide relief to the curfew area residents of G-6 area and on the other, the personnel of security agencies are engaged in looting the edible items from the shops and the traders are unable to sell these items to the people. The residents of G-6 complained that Sui gas has been disconnected for the last seven days and despite assurances by the government it was not supplied to them.
