Motorcyclists' dilemma

Apropos of Mr M. Mumtaz Hussain's letter of 21 June 07 on the above caption; majority of law abiding citizens, who too drive cars on the same roads at the same time as the motorcyclists ply, would give full marks to the Traffic Police for their much warranted job of checks on motorcycles.
Any constructive criticism helps improvement, but the criticism for the sake of mere criticism of police neither reflects a good thinking nor logic to set the so-called wrongs right.
What is wrong if police checks the papers of motorcyclists like other vehicles? Why police leave the violators in morning hours and wait for evening to check? Police is just doing its job with leniency, otherwise the conditions of driving by multi-variety of vehicles in city requires strict implementation of traffic rules. In Saudi Arabia and UAE, traffic violators are strictly fined with 3-6 days imprisonment, which ensures traffic discipline and minimises accidents. Prior to raising fingers on police, the motorcyclists should cross-examine themselves.
Majority of motorcyclists ignore all norms of traffic law; flee like bees on roads, streets, footpath, cross/jump-over traffic island from either direction of their choice, disregard traffic signals, create ear-piercing noise by purposely engineered smoke cylinders, raise front wheel up in the air during drive, fix/use horn of trucks, create nuisance on roads, carry 8-9 additional riders of entire family with children on one motorcycle and demonstrate like circus on roads, force their zigzag entry ahead of vehicles in fast motion, overtake from either side, neither care to get license issued nor bother to carry same with ownership papers of motorbike during drive and overall exhibit a most indiscipline manner, awful method and uncivilised way of motorcycling on roads.
In view of above facts and rapidly growing numbers of motorcycles on roads, it is advisable that access of motorcycles on main Shahrah-e-Faisal be banned followed by other main roads as is in practice in developed countries. This will clear traffic and minimise accidents.
Chairman CPLC, in coordination with Traffic Police Department, Karachi should organise traffic weeks regularly to control traffic movements and implement regulations. Evolve strategy to carry-out strict check on violations by all kinds of vehicles in general and motorcyclists in particular, which is one of the main reasons of accidents and loss of precious lives every day. "Drive Safely To Come Back Home, Your Family Is Waiting", slogans be displayed on roads for education.
