The recent conferring of knighthood on Rushdie and its timing has infuriated the entire Muslim Ummah. The British, known for their tolerance, have dismayed everyone by conferring this title on one of the most controversial and mediocre writer of modern times. The ulterior motives are all too visible as Rushdie has no connection with Britain and resides in Latin America.
In these testing times for the Muslim Ummah we should be resolute and register our protest and anger in a civilised and strong manner so that we are not seen as uncivilised people.
In this background it is my humble submission that the National Assembly of Pakistan will register its strong and meaningful protest by returning to the Queen the Royal Chair presented to the National Assembly during the address of the Queen to the joint sitting of the parliament of Pakistan on her last visit to Pakistan.
