The traders of cloth market here have expressed concern and annoyance over the alarming situation arising out of frequent power failures for hours.
Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Vice-President Saqib Naseem, in statement on Tuesday, bitterly criticised the performance of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), which resorted to load shedding and shut downs of electricity without notice. Despite all promises, the KESC authorities had failed to improve working of their technical staff.
He said due to the KESC staff's inefficiency and negligence, the frequency of power break-downs was increasing with each passing day, and for the last three days, the situation is intolerable in cloth markets of Saddar and elsewhere in Karachi.
Due to frequent and prolonged power breakdowns the economic activities in the city markets was badly affected and the shopkeepers had to suffer colossal financial losses. He observed that people were rightly demanding of the government to deprivatise the KESC. The KCCI Vice-President urged the President, Prime Minister, Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh to intervene and seriously address the problem.-PR
