The Soyem of late Mrs Atiya Aminuddin, wife of late Syed Aminuddin, and sister of Qutubuddin Aziz, Mahmudul Aziz and Khalidul Aziz was held at the Masjid-e-Mubarak in Gizri market between Asr and Maghreb prayers on Tuesday.
Late Atiya Aminuddin, it may be mentioned here was murdered along with her servant by a gang of dacoits in her house on 21st Street in Phase V of the DHA between Friday and Saturday night. Police is investigating the double murder.
The only son of late Atiya Aminuddin, Anjum Amin, who is working with the ILO in Rome, arrived here on Wednesday morning from Rome and was present at the Soyem for his late mother to receive condolences from the very large number of friends and admirers who attended the Soyem.
Among those who attended the Soyem were former Sindh governor Dr Ashraf Tabani, the Consul General of Indonesia Mustakim along with Consul Hikmat Moeljawan, Vice Consul Djoke Sulastome, Essa Ibrahim from Saudi Consulate General, Wamiq Zuberi, Editor of Business Recorder, S.M. Fazal, Editor Daily News, Umar Farooqui, Editor Aghaz, Mahmud Hasan, S.S. Iqbal Hussain, former ambassador to Indonesia, Aijaz Ali Khan, former SVP Habib Bank, Asadullah Khan, Anwer Saleh Mohammed Honorary Consul of Chile, Zafar Iqbal, President DRS, Mairaj Aziz, Sirajuddin Aziz, Fasihuddin Alvi, Shamimur Rahman Alvi and many others. The Soyem closed with prayers for the departed soul and all those attending offered condolences to Anjum Amin, Mahmudul Aziz and Khalidul Aziz while Qutubuddin Aziz was away in the USA.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Consular Corps and Consul General of Saudi Arabia H.E. Dr Hassan A Attar sent a message of condolence to Mahmudul Aziz on the tragedy that befell to his sister and said that he and his colleagues in the Consulate General share the grief with Aziz and other relatives.
Masood Hamid also conveyed to Mahmudul Aziz the heartfelt condolences of Hameed Haroon, APNS President. Meanwhile a large number of friends and relatives of the Aziz family from within the country and from abroad also rang up and conveyed their condolences as also by fax and e-mail.
