The conflict between the government and Lal Masjid management has divided the whole society as far as their perception about religion is concerned, a survey conducted by this scribe revealed. The Lal Masjid issue has become hot topic of discussion these days.
The curfew has been clamped in the Capital for the first time in the history of Pakistan. It is true that the curfew has been imposed just in G-6, a populated sector of the Capital, but it has disturbed the life of every citizen.
The people living in G-6 are imprisoned in their houses. The shopkeepers of Aabpara market and Melody market have earned not even a single penny for the last eight days because they are unable to open their shops. The transportation problem has added to their miseries. In brief, all the residents of the twin cities are going through the worst crises mentally as well as physically. The society has been divided into two groups; the first group is in favour of the government and the other one is supporting the Lal Masjid management.
"I think government has done a remarkable job by taking action against the Lal Masjid management. Earlier, Lal Masjid management announced that if the government is not ready to implement 'Shariah' in the country then it must be ready to face suicide attacks in the Capital", Munir Awan, a resident of the Capital, told this scribe.
When Business Recorder talked to Nida Qayum, a student of MBA in a Pimsat, about this issue, she said, "Imagine, had the Lal Masjid operation not been carried out, what would have been the shape of things, obviously suicide attacks and some other acts of terrorism".
Mateen Haider, a resident of the Capital, said, "My point of view is that, the Lal Masjid management was right in every respect. Our country was made in the name of Islam but we have failed in implementing Islam and Shariah in Pakistan".
He emphasised that maulvi Abdul Aziz and maulvi Abdul Rashid Ghazi raised their voice against this non-Islamic system but unfortunately no one was ready to support them not even the religious scholars". The conflict between the government and Lal Masjid has become a smoke screen in a sense that nothing is visible from the both sides. The people are perplexed at what is happening around.
