Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has stressed on continuous monitoring of KESC's technical and other operations as well as its ongoing projects. In this regard he asked the Wapda's team of experts constituted last week to have a review of the corporation's technical and financial matters every two month.
The team of Wapda experts on Thursday met the governor and apprised him about their assessment and recommendations regarding KESC. They observed that personal efforts of the governor and motivation of the Corporation had greatly helped in improving the situation caused by recent power crisis to a great extent.
The team informed the governor that the Corporation needs to formulate a harmonised H R policy. They said all cadres of the staff must have the feeling of ownership while it is imperative to bridge the gap between operation and maintenance departments and employees and establish a conducive environment and only then some improvement can be expected.
The team stressed on staff training and appointment of utility experts in the corporation. Referring to technical matters, the team informed that planning for the future is completed but there is need to pay attention on timely completion of all the projects.
According to them, the investment from the KESC's new operators seems to be little and this side also needs attention. They said that power fluctuation could be controlled with earthling project and presently the earth and ground wires seems to be non-existent.
The team observed that KESC has installed 1,000 new PMTs and over 80 feeders, which did bring some improvement in the system. They were of the view that with focussed appproach, emphasis will have to be laid on new power generation.
They noted that about 150 MW captive power is available and full stress should be laid on its use while accelerated efforts be made to obtain rental power generation plant which would help overcome the problems to some extent. They said that repair and rehabilitation of existing plants can add 70 MW electricity to power utility network.
The team also elaborated KESC's financial matters and said the billing does not reflect the quantum of electricity being used. They cited an example of Defence area and said that just one house has reported an average 108 units consumption in a month.
Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad appreciated the efforts of the team and directed the concerned authorities to maintain contact with the KESC in the light of its report to bring improvement in the situation. He said that a co-ordinated program be chalked out for cooperation with the administration upto Town level.
