A delegation of Korean industrialists is expected to visit Karachi by the end of the current month to recruit skilled and unskilled workers, said an official of the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) on Friday.
"This is the part of the agreement between the governments of Pakistan and Korea under which Pakistan will provide Korea with skilled and unskilled manpower," he said.
The OEC had initiated a one-month programme to impart training to labourers, he said, adding the trainees would also be taught Korean language, both reading and writing, so that they could acquaint themselves with the Korean industrial environment.
The OEC official said that the labour training programme was being conducted at all OEC branches, including Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore and Islamabad, adding that 40 workers had been enrolled at the Karachi centre.
He said that so far the OEC had trained 120 labours, who were now working in various industries in Korea, and added that the OEC was, at present, providing training to its fourth consecutive batch of workers.
Korea''s annual labour requirement is about 3,000 from Pakistan, and now it is mostly depending on overseas manpower for its industrial needs. Apart from labour training, the OEC had also sent doctors, engineers and teachers to different Middle Eastern countries, the official maintained.
