Tribal militants in a show of force on Friday paraded men they accused of selling illegal drugs through a bazaar in border area with Afghanistan, officials said. The group of 50 hooded and armed vigilantes, who call themselves mujahedeen also smashed video cassettes they confiscated from local shops and demanded an end to vice and adherence to strict Islamic law.
The militants told people in Khar, the main town in Bajaur district, to get ready for jihad because Muslims were facing a "critical situation," said witnesses. They released the eight alleged drug traders after giving them a stern warning.
