Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Professor Dr Atta-ur-Rehman will lead a delegation to China from July 15 to discuss the establishment of Pakistan-China University of Engineering, Science and Technology in Pakistan.
The delegation, during the visit, will hold meetings with the Chinese minister of education as well as rectors and senior officials of the consortium of universities. It will also participate in the graduating ceremony of PhD scholars of HEC in Tsinghua University, Beijing.
The Pakistan-China University (PCU) will have a total strength of 5,000 students with around 350 PhD level faculty members. Chinese faculty will comprise 25-30 percent of the total faculty. The rector, senior faculty members and some administrative staffers would come from China. The Government of Pakistan will provide all funding for the PCU while the Chinese consortium of universities will provide technical support and expertise for the project. The total cost of the project, to be completed in eight years is approximately $600 million.
Moreover, 450 students will be sent to Chinese consortium of universities for MS/PhD level training under a faculty development programme for the PCU.
