The Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Association (Apta), Adil Mehmood, has warned the government that all members of Apta would stage a protest rally on July 23, 2007 in front of the President House if the problems of the textile sector are not solved.
While talking to media persons here on Saturday he said that the government was not willingly to solve the problems of the textile sector, especially the hardships, faced by the spinners.
He said that the government should lift the ban on cotton import through Wagah border so that textile industrialist could import the raw material from the neighbouring country to strengthen the local spinning industry. He said that it would be helpful to redress the miseries of textile sector.
He said that gas prices had been enhanced to 38 percent, electricity was increased to 10 percent and 93 percent wages were amplified but unfortunately no relief was announced for the owners of the textile industry. He said that120 textile mills had been shut down and if the government did not pay attention to solving the problems of this sector, more than 100 spinning mills would be shut down in the last week of the July. Consequently, thousands of people would be unemployed.
