There is no truth in the reports regarding fumigation in lint cotton because there is no difference between the soil of cotton growing areas of Pakistan and India. This was stated by the All Pakistan Textile Association (APTA) central leader Tanvir Sheikh while reacting to the statement of the Federal Minister for Textile Mushtaq Cheema.
He further said that if there is a matter of fumigation in Indian long staple cotton, there should be fumigation in lint cotton of the areas of Sindh province of Pakistan. He stated that the import of cotton has already been allowed from all land routes except long staple lint cotton from Indian boarder due to so called reason of fumigation.
He further said that matter of fumigation has no substance. In fact import of cotton through Wagha boarder was not allowed purposely for providing extra benefits to the farmers at the cost of textile spinning mills.
He appealed the government not to ignore the textile spinning mills and take in to consideration the real issues pushing the cost of production apart from providing remedial measures for revival and survival of the textile industry.
