The Ministry of Housing and Works has vacated various residential facilities occupied by illegal occupants in the Federal Capital. An official in the ministry told APP on Wednesday.
Out of 170 housing units, 85 had already been got vacated whereas, the matter of remaining facilities occupied by police personnel was being sorted out in collaboration with the Police department.
A committee formed to look into the matter was working over the matter, which would be settled amicably, he added. He said the matter was somewhat delayed in recent days as the concerned Estate office dealing with the issue had been gutted down during the Lal Masjid operation.
Replying to a question, he said that National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works headed by Ghias Ahmed Mela had also directed the Estate Office to expedite the process. The official further said the NA body on the issue had advised the Estate Office to provide the letter wherein the criteria for the allotment of these houses was laid down.
On the other hand, the matter of residents' expulsion from Sector G-6 had also been halted for some time, he added. He informed that residents of 3,000 housing units in Sector G-6 were demanding ownership rights by citing example of Karachi where the residents were granted these rights.
The capital has already been facing scarcity of residential facilities for the federal government employees. The proportion of issue kept increasing due to swelling number of government employees and stalemate construction of housing units.
