The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has provided four new mobile units for the district, helping those living in the district's outskirts to get their computerised national identity cards.
Nadra General Manager Muhammad Iqbal told reporters and Union Council Nazims here on Friday at the district Nazim office that his authority had computerised 800 union councils out of 963 in the province. That includes 70 union councils out of 113 in the district.
He said 3,000 to 4,000 union council secretaries had completed their training and that his authority had collected Rs 80 million from 963 union councils as revenue, of which the authority has disbursed Rs 6.2 million among union council secretaries as bonus.
About Kasur, he said the population is now almost 3 million, of which 1.5 million should get their computerised identity cards, but only 900,000 people have so far received their cards.
The decision to provide the district with the mobile units came after district Nazim Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan had invited the Nadra general manager to talk about a string of public complaints about the cards and the union councils' role.
There were also complaints from the Nazims and other district council members about the local Nadra office staff's attitude. The Nadra general manager told the meeting that his authority would solve their problems and would take stern action against the local office staff. The decision to dispatch the two mobile units came after the Tehsil Nazim told the meeting that people were facing problems in getting their cards.
The Nadra general manager also visited the Nadra swift centre where he gave them some instructions. Deputy General Manager Wajid Ali, DGM Ibrar, district Nazim, Kasur Tehsil Nazim Naveed Hashim Rizvi and various union council Nazims were also present.
