Sindh Minister for Labour and Transport, Mohammed Adil Siddiqi, has urged the investors and transporters to make investment in CNG transport keeping environmental protection and future needs of Karachi in view. He said the Provincial government is taking concrete measures to introduce a new transport culture in the city, equipped with modern and safe facilities.
Chairing a meeting on Saturday, Adil Siddiqi said that as per the plan, several thousand buses are being brought while CNG coasters, radio cabs and 4-stroke rickshaws would be given preference as other modes of public transport. He pointed out that particular pollutants in the air, caused by emission of smoke from diesel and 2-stroke vehicles, were harming the human health.
Adil Siddiqi suggested the transporters in their own interest, not to bring vehicles on roads, which are contributing towards environmental pollution and rather invest in CNG transport in place of old buses, mini-buses, coaches and 2-stroke rickshaws. He said they would be provided all possible facilities under private-public partnership.
The minister emphasised upon participation of private sector companies and said their investment in the sector would help provide safe and comfortable commuting facilities on one hand and eliminate pollution from the city on the other.
