Relief for rain, flood-hit people: Arbab tells officials to take adequate measures

Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has once again directed the flood control relief officers to ensure that people affected by the recent rains and flooding of fields are provided adequate relief measures and resettled on their agricultural fields.
CM House sources said on Monday that the chief minister, during his recent visits to rains affected areas in the interior of Sindh, looked into the repair work of breaches in canals, evacuation of people to safer areas, distribution of relief goods and arrangements for shelter for those who have lost their katcha house to rains.
In the meantime, senior Member, Board of Revenue, Sindh, Anwar Haider, has been instructed to work out the amount of compensation needed to be disbursed among the affected people.
Along with grants, the government is considering relief in agricultural revenue collection and other assistance needed to keep the agricultural activities going.
In view of the breaches in canals the Irrigation Department has been directed to survey all major canals in Sindh and submit a report so that a comprehensive canals repair and rehabilitation programme could be drawn up. This project would be funded after making appropriate reappropriation in the annual development allocations for irrigation and agricultural projects.
The recent rains, breaches in canals and floods have damaged crops, swept away animals, wiped out villages, and have forced thousands of people to take shelter in temporary housing settlements. CM House sources said that resettlement of displaced people would be completed by the end of August and all compensation would be finalised immediately after that.
