Despite the announcement of the federal government to increase the salaries of government employees by 15 percent, the Sindh Finance Department has not yet issued a notification in this regard, official sources told Business Recorder here on Monday.
The decision was made in the budget speech of the fiscal year 2007-08 to support employees of the federal and provincial governments to meet their needs in the wake of increasing inflation in the country.
"Increase in salaries by 15 percent is aimed at providing relief to the federal as well as provincial governments' employees to some extent," sources added. Though almost one-and-half months have passed the Finance department has not issued any official notification to implement this decision practically.
Lower grade employees working in provincial departments have expressed concern over delay in issuance of notification, as they would not get their revised salary from next month.
Moreover, the provincial government has not implemented the decision to give promotions to the lower grade employees, who are ought to be promoted following the decision of the federal government.
According to the decision, junior clerks working in grade BPS-4 are decided to be promoted to BPS-7, the senior clerks working in grade BPS-7 to BPS-9 and office assistants working in BPS-11 to BPS-14. But these employees are still awaiting their promotion and raise.
They feared that they might be deprived of the revised salary structure because of delay in issuing notification. When contacted, senior officials said that notification would be issued before the end of the current month. They assured that employees of the province would not be deprived of revised salaries and they would certainly get the revised structure from the next month.
