A petition, that the military operation at Lal Masjid and Jimia Hafsa was illegal, filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The petition, filed by Advocate Tariq Asad on the behalf of Advocate Akmal Saleemi, also pointed out that a Commission comprising five to seven retired judges and ulema be constituted to probe the tragic incident of Lal Masjid.
It is prayed in the petition that the military operation was unconstitutional and in violation of Article 245 of the Constitution and those responsible to manoeuvre the 'Silence Operation' be dealt in accordance with law.
The petition prayed that the whole record and attendance registers of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa be called to determine the exact number and information about the alive, dead, injured and missing persons during the operation.
"The respondents be directed that the arrested people should not be humiliated and be treated in accordance with law of the land, norms of humanity and morality", the petition said.
The petition prayed that the students and teachers who had come out of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa voluntarily, without showing any resistance, be released with immediate effect.
"That Jamia Hafsa and Jamia Faradia be handed over to Wafaqul Madaris. The parents of innocent children and teachers killed, injured or missing be given compensation", the petition said. Interior Ministry, district administration, Islamabad, Wafaqul Madaris are the respondents in the petition.
