Sindh High Court on Wednesday admitting two identical petitions against amendments in Pemra Ordinance 2002 for hearing issued notice to Secretary Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law, Justice and Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) for August 7, 2007.
Both petitions filed by Peoples Lawyer's Forum, lawyers wing of Pakistan Peoples Party and Sindh Bar Council were taken up by SHC's division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui.
President PLF Shahadat Awan challenging promulgation of amended Pemra Ordinance 2007 and ban on live telecast submitted impugned amended ordinance and consequential order of Chairman Pemra were affront to parliament and tantamount to over-ruling supremacy of legislative body Parliament.
In other petition members SBC Salahuddin Gandapur and Muhammad Aaqil submitted amendments in Pemra Ordinance 2002 was against fundamental right of citizen guaranteed by Constitution to have access to information.
