The District Council has urged the government to declare Dadu a calamity-hit district and withdraw all agricultural taxes and loans. The session met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of its Convenor and District Naib Nazim, Syed Mohammad Shah.
The Union Nazims and District council members said that the recent floods had inundated most area of the district and the crops were submerged in the floodwaters besides making thousands of people shelter-less. They also urged the concerned authorities to take all-out efforts for the rehabilitation of affected people.
The Union Nazims and members while taking serious notice of absence of District heads of the various government departments from the session staged a token walkout. They also criticised various departments for not executing the development schemes despite obtaining funds.
The council passed a resolution urging the District Government Dadu to publish tenders of all development schemes and not to make payment to the contractor unless the UC Nazim/Councillor issues certificate of satisfaction about the work. The session also took serious notice of the illegal cutting of trees and unanimously passed another resolution urging the District government to implement a ban on the tree cutting.
