The Punjab University is modernising its Transport Wing by providing latest machinery to renovate and rebuild its old and useless vehicles. This is revealed by Acting vice-chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt here on Wednesday.
He said that he also delivered a water tanker to the garden wing, prepared at the university's workshop following his announcement on the university's revamp plans.
Appreciating the delivery of water tanker Resident Officer-I Professor Zahid Karim Khan said that there was need for a water tanker and its estimated cost was Rs 150,000, though the university's Transport Wing overhauled a useless Bedford bus, 1981 model, into a modern water tanker with only at Rs 200,000. The tanker has the capacity of 10,500 litres of water. He also said the Transport Wing had managed to do all kinds of tasks, including engine overhaul.
He added his wing saved Rs 5.5 million and also collected Rs 200,000 from advertising on the buses. He said his wing was buying six new buses and two rapid coasters from these savings and that the university had 51 new buses and eight more would join the bus fleet. University Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Resident Office-II Malik Muhammad Zaheer, Senior Transport Officer Major Khalid Ali were also present.
