With a commitment to ensure safe road environment in the Federal Capital, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have been successful in bringing down the accident ratio during first seven months of ongoing year as compared to the corresponding period of the year 2006.
As many as 47 fatal road accidents occurred in Islamabad during the first seven months of 2007 claiming lives of 52 persons as compared to 65 fatal accidents during the same period of 2006, which claimed 86 lives, the official sources told APP here on Wednesday.
Likewise, 47 non-fatal road accidents occurred to date this year wounding 95 persons as compared to 104 non-fatal road accidents injuring 140 persons during the corresponding period of 2006.
The sources said that 21 pedestrian lost their lives in fatal accidents during the incumbent year as compared to 34 deaths in first seven months of 2006. As many as 31 persons died in collision between vehicles during 2007 as compared to 52 deaths occurred during first seven months of 2006 as a result of vehicle-to-vehicle collisions.
Giving the break-up, the sources said seven fatal accidents occurred in January 2007 as compared to 12 unfortunate happenings of January 2006; while five accidents occurred in February 2007 as compared to eight in February 2006; 14 accidents were reported in March 2007 in contrast of 14 in March 2006; five accidents occurred in April 2007 while seven in April 2006; four accidents were reported in May 2007 while eight in May 2006, seven unfortunate happenings occurred in June 2007 as compared to eight in June 2006; and five accidents in July 2007 while eight in July 2006.
