Eight percent of private educational institutions of the capital have not been registered yet. Education Secretary Jahangir Bashar made this report before the meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Education here on Thursday.
Two National Assembly Standing Committees met separately at the Parliament House on Thursday. The education committee also approved the Islamabad Capital Territory Educational Institutions (Regulation and Promotion) Bill that aims at streamlining private educational institutions the capital city.
The education secretary informed members that registration of nearly eight percent of private educational institutions of the federal capital would be completed 'as early as possible.'
However, he reported that almost 92 percent of the private educational institutions had been registered. The NA committee on narcotics control took note of the ill effects of drugs on the new generations and insisted that efforts must be made to save them. For this reason, they decided to take stern action against drug traffickers.
The meeting made a number of recommendations for establishing treatment centers for the rehabilitation of addicts. The committee also recommended associating elected representatives of the people in the task of persuading cultivators in the designated poppy areas to desist from growing this crop.
