Six people including three young girls died and more than a dozen were wounded on Sunday in an explosion aboard a tourist bus here, police said. One of the wounded was in critical condition following the blast at the scenic Mughal-built Shalimar gardens, police said.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that a low-density improvised explosive device was used in the blast," a police inspector who did not want to be named told AFP after visiting the scene.
Forensic experts collected samples from the site and their findings were expected on Monday, he added. A young female tourist and two of her Kashmiri friends were among the victims. The three others killed were tourists from Indian Gujarat. Police did not identify the victims or give their ages.
Kashmir's key ruling coalition partner, the Peoples' Democratic Party, described it as a 'senseless attack' and 'an act of frustration perpetrated by the elements having no regard for humanity or any religion.'
