Acting city district nazim Syed Wajid Ali Shah has said that under the Environmental Development Project, the changing of old water pipelines and laying down of new pipelines would be started soon in Multan city. He said that work on 150-km long sewer lines has already been started and all the sewer lines would be changed by 2009.
Giving a briefing, the acting city district Nazim Multan said that the projects worth of Rs 5,500 million has been approved and work of other projects would be started in next three months. DCO Abdul Sattar Shaikh, MD WASA Dr Javed Iqbal, Chairman Public Safety Commission, and other were also present on the occasion.
The city district Nazim Multan said that the authorities concerned have been directed to make plan, in keeping in mind, to meet the 50 years water needs of citizens.
He said that Multan city has been distributed in four zones, ie Shamsabad, Hassan Parwana and Mumtazabad and Gulgasht Dr Javed said that he is himself monitoring the pace of the work and no leniency would be tolerated in this regard.
Meanwhile, the monsoon rains have exposed the sewerage system in a number of areas of the city including Khuni Burj, Shaheen Market, Daulat gate, Delhi-gate, Hamayun road, Tipu Sultan Colony, Shujabad road, and Gulberg colony and gutter water has been overflowing.
The filthy gutter water spread stench in all over the area which intensified the chances of spreading epidemic diseases while the roads have also been filled with stagnant water causing difficulties to the nearby residents.
