The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) said its eastern market indicator (EMI) rose 6 cents to 874c a kg clean at sales on Thursday. AWEX said its northern indicator at sales in Sydney rose 6 cents to 894c/kg, the southern indicator at sales in Melbourne rose 7 cents to 858c/kg, and the western indicator at sales in Fremantle rose 7 cents to 874c/kg.
In Sydney, Merino fleece of 19 microns and finer gained 15 to 20 cents, with 3 to 6 percent vegetable matter Merino skirtings 5 to 10 cents dearer. Locks and Stains eased 10 cents respectively across the board. In Melbourne, Merino fleece of 19.5 microns and finer increased by 20 to 30 cents. Merino skirtings gained up to 30 cents and Crossbreds from 28 to 39 microns closed the day 5 cents dearer.
In Fremantle, finer micron Merino fleece was up to 20 cents clean dearer, and most types of Merino skirtings gained 10 to 15 cents with 20 and 21 microns most affected. Of the 25,559 bales offered, 18.0 percent were passed in. Sales will resume in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle on Wednesday.
