Opposition leader in the National Assembly and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has refused to attend the Pak-Afghan joint peace jirga to be held in Kabul from August 9 to August 11, his spokesman said Sunday.
Mufti Mohammad Ibrar told NNI that Maulana has informed the Interior Ministry about his decision. The name of Maulana Fazlur Rehman was included in the 350-member jirga of Pakistan side. Some 700 delegates from both sides would participate in the peace jirga.
The decision of Maulana of not attending the peace jirga came at a time when most of the tribal elders from North and South Waziristan have rejected the invitation of jirga participation on the ground that how they could talk about peace in other country while their own areas are facing worst kind of law and order situation.
Head of Torikhel tribe of North Waziristan Malik Mamoor Khan told the agency when operation is continued in the North Waziristan, people are killed and dislocated then it is very strange to go to Afghanistan and plead for peace there. Malik Mamoor Khan was also one of the delegates of Pakistani jirga who met NWFP Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai and apprised him of the decision.
