Opposition and treasury benches on Tuesday demanded of the government to review its foreign policy, refuse US annual aid of $1 billion, disqualify USA presidential candidates Barack Obama and Tom Tancrado following strong condemnation to US-India nuclear treaty and US pre-emptive operations against terrorists on Pakistan's land.
During the discussion on the motion, moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi and Amin Aslam of PML said that US Civil Nuclear Treaty with India will trigger nuclear arms race in the region.
Amin strongly condemned the government and asked it to refuse American aid, saying that Pakistan played the role of a frontline state in war on terrorism. He termed it a joke with armed forces who have sacrificed their lives in terrorist activities in North Waziristan, saying US has given the fruit in the form of making American aid conditional with Pakistan's role in war on terrorism.
Amin Aslam strongly condemned the US presidential candidate Obamas' statement in which he suggested sending US army to Pakistan to hunt down al Qaeda terrorists declaring: "If President Musharraf won't act, we will do." He said that in a bid to hide its failure in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States wants to turn world's attention to Pakistan.
He demanded of the government to review its foreign policy in accordance with the challenges and global scenario and evolve such mechanism that external forces may not fulfill their evil designs to operate in Pakistan.
Amin Aslam said the US political parties - Republicans and Democrats - are against both Pakistan and Islam and US presidential hopefuls are themselves biggest terrorists.
Liaquat Baloch of MMA demanded of the government to call joint sitting of the Parliament and strongly condemned the government for not calling joint sitting of the Parliament for the last five years. He observed that the foreign policy is not based on national interests and asked the government to review its foreign policy on priority basis.
Baloch said that Pakistan must refuse $1 billion aid and demanded of the government to release Dr Qadeer Khan. Opposition legislators demanded of the government to review the foreign policy and condemned the Bush doctrine of military intervention in Pakistan ignoring its role in war on terrorism as a frontline state.
The people who fought Russia were supported by the US with arms and were branded as 'Mujahideen' but they are now labelled as terrorists. These 'jihadis' are also a production of US, Liaquat recalled.
He, however, said the people of occupied Kashmir and Palestine were not given their birthright of freedom. Pakistan fully co-operated with US in war on terrorism, but America has benefited India by signing civil nuclear treaty with it, he argued. Baloch asked the government to review foreign policy in accordance with the changing global scenario and reject American aid.
Yasmeen Rehman of PPP asked US Republican candidate Tom Tancrado, who uttered statement to attack Pakistan, to apologise to Pakistan government. She criticised OIC for not showing any resentment over US threats to attack Muslims holy places.
She said that US civil nuclear treaty with India has resulted into power imbalance in the region and criticised that the military government had failed to protect the country.
