Dispelling the impression of data transfer to any foreign agency, Zahid Iqbal, Director-General, National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Islamabad Region, on Wednesday said that no data was transferred to any foreign agency, "and it is completely safe and secure".
"There is no reality in the rumours regarding data transfer to any foreign agency, and all data in Nadra database is safe and secure", he said while addressing a joint press conference with City District Nazim Javed Ikhlas and District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Irfan Ellahi after a meeting with City District Government officials regarding registration of new voters before the general elections.
He said that Nadra has completed over 68 percent registration of Rawalpindi division and people were provided Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs). The population of Rawalpindi district in January 2007 was 4.346 million, out of which 2.371 million were above 18 years of age. Above 1.6 million people have obtained CNICs which is 68 percent of the total adult population, he added.
Zahid said that Nadra has set up ten swift registration centres, and five mobile registration vans were deputed in Rawalpindi to facilitate the people to get their CNICs. He said that Nadra has set up system for registration of birth, death, marriages and divorces at union council level.
He said that government has launched a crackdown against people who have obtained double, or triple, CNICs. People involved in this crime would be taken to task to avoid this crime in future, he added.
He said that every citizen can now get national identity card for overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) and Nadra has removed the bar of any foreign address of passport for the card.
