Provincial Industries Minister Muhammad Ajmal Cheema has said that "Green Rickshaw" scheme has been initiated in Sialkot. Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and other trade bodies here on Thursday, he added under the programme as many as 750 green rickshaws would be given to the interested persons on subsidised rates.
The minister disclosed that government had set aside more than Rs 1 billion for the green rickshaw scheme and for extending soft loan facilities to the interested persons for the purchase of CNG rickshaws.
The step has been taken for reducing pollution load caused by non-CNG rickshaws as well as to provide pollution-free travelling facilities to the passengers, he added. Ajmal Cheema informed the house that another labour complex and housing scheme would soon be constructed.
The main concept of setting up another labour complex was redressal the accommodation problems confronting by the industrial workers of Sialkot, he added. Ajmal said that industrial workers are the backbone of the national economy and government was utilising maximum resources for extending the facilities to them on top priority basis in the Punjab.
Apart from this, he said government had already developed business-friendly environment to attract foreign investment and to carry out industrialisation in the Punjab. The minister said that government was extending all possible support the business community especially the SMEs aimed at further accelerating the pace of trade and commerce activities in the Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion Provincial Secretary Industries Aanwar Ahmad Khan disclosed that three industrial zones would be established along with Sialkot-Lahore Motorway adding that suitable land had been acquired for the proposed industrial zones. Besides, most modern Engineering University was also being established on 800 acres of land near the motorway, which will cater the needs of industrial sector of Sialkot, he added.
The functioning of Engineering University, he said would be supportive in producing skilled man force and help industrial sector in bringing innovation in the products, he added.
Provincial Secretaries of Communication and Works, Labour and Managing Director Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) also spoke on the occasion. In his address of welcome President SCCI Sheikh Abdul Waheed Sandal highlighted various problems being confronted by the business community of Sialkot.
